Beatty two thousand Pounds to be expended in the Purchase
of Provision for the use of the Continent and to be Accounted
for
Whereas George Somerville of Baltimore County according
to the Order of this Board entered into a Bond with Security
in the Penalty of two thousand pounds conditioned that he
should in all things Demean and behave himself as a good
true and faithful Subject of this State and should not go out
of Baltimore County without Leave of the Governor and
Council of this State first obtained in writing and this Board
being of Opinion that there is no ground to believe that the
now going at Large of the said George Somerville will
endanger the Safety of this State Permission is therefore
hereby granted to the said George Somerville to go at Large

Monday 17 August 1778

Present as on Saturday except his Excellency
Jonathan Jenings who was sent from the State of Virginia
and Charged with passing counterfeit Continental Paper Dol-
lars and who was committed by the Governor and Council
of this State to the Charge of Capt Campbell of the Artillery
(the County Goal being insufficient to secure him) is hereby
ordered to be sent under Guard to Chester Town in Kent
County there to be delivered up to the County Court of the
said County that due Enquiry may be made
Ordered that the western shore Treasurer Pay to Aquila
Paca Esqr six hundred and twenty eight Pounds, thirteen shil-
lings and seven Pence due the 28th Batt. of Militia in Harford
County Commanded by Lt Col. James Mc Comas as per Pay

In Council 17th Augt 1778.
Gent.
We have sent, under Guard, a certain Jonathan Jennings,
who was apprehended in Virginia for passing counterfeit
Paper Dollars and, as the greater Part of the Money was
passed in this State, the County Court for Fairfax County in
Virginia thought proper to order him to this State for Trial,
inclosed you have the Order of Court respecting him, with the
Counterfeit Money and a letter from the Magistrates, with the
Evidence against him.
