mission Mr Johns or not for this Service, will depend on what
Officers go with your Drafts; from the character given him by
Colo Hartley we are much inclined to send him with the
Drafted Militia, or promote him in some other Way. We
wish you to forward the Men as soon as you can, and are
Sir &ca
Colo Benjamin Mackall.

[Council to Gist.]

In Council Annapolis 15th June 1778
Sir.
We have Shoes and Stockings in the Store here; the
Number you write for shall be sent. We have no Blankets
or Hats, the 106 of the former and 95 of the latter, we request
you'll purchase, though £5 a Blanket, we think a high Price.
If there are more Hats than the 106 you want, advise us, and
we will, if good, purchase and send them forward. Mr Bullen
has 44 woollen Coats, to which he can add 10 of Linen to
make up the 54 you want; he has got 90 Linen Vests and 46
Woollen Vests, they shall be sent with what Shirts are ready,
about 60 or 70; if you can purchase Linen to make up the
Remainder of the 154 Shirts wanting, at or under 20/, we
wish you to do so, but we hope the Men are not so bare that
they must be kept back for the 80 or 90 Shirts deficient. A
late Letter from Congress, is very pressing to send forward
the Men and we hope and desire that those at least who are
cloathed with what is mentioned above may not stay for those,
if any, who may be in Want of Shirts. Our Gallies are not
yet come up with the Linen they went for; as soon as we get
it, it will be made up and sent to the Camp.
We are &ca
Colo Mordecai Gist.
