[Washington to President Laurens.]

Valley Forge 4th June 1778
Sir
I take the liberty to transmit you by Express, the inclosed
packet, which just arrived at our advanced post by a flag from
Sir Henry Clinton. I also transmit a Copy of a Letter I
received from him, of the 30th Ult and of my answer, likewise
Copies of his and Lord Howe's Letter which came to hand by
the present flag, the packet, I presume contains acts Similar
to those sent to me I have the honor to be with
great respect & esteem

Friday 5th June 1778.

Present as on yesterday.
Ordered That the western shore Treasurer pay to Peter
Littig one hundred and seventy nine Pounds fourteen shillings
and six Pence due per Acct passed by the A G.
That the said Treasurer pay to James West eighteen Pounds
one shilling, five Pounds, and the further sum of Five Pounds
due per Acct passed by the A G.
That the said Treasurer Pay to Mary Ghiselin forty two
Pounds for the hire of her Negro man to work at the Tanyard
per Acct passed by the A G.
It appearing to this Board from a Letter of the Board of
War dated the first Day of this Instant that there is a pressing
occasion for the immediate Transportation of the Provisions
purchased in Virginia and this State for the use of the Army.
It is therefore ordered that a sufficient Number of the Bay
Craft be impressed for the purpose of Transporting the said
Provisions to the Head of this Bay and it is requested that
any Justice of the Peace issue Warrants for the impressing
such Bay Craft for the purpose aforesaid on the Application
of Captain Thos Richardson of George Town or Jesse Hol-
lingsworth of Baltimore Town.

Saturday 6 June 1778.

Present as on yesterday.
Ordered That the western shore Treasurer Pay to Samuel
McPherson two hundred and two Pounds ten shillings due
him per Acct passed by the A Genl
That the said Treasurer Pay to Christopher Edelin Esqr
