his Negroes or any other Property returned. We have had
many Applications similar to the present, but our Impression
of the Impropriety of permitting our People to go to the
Enemy to solicit Favors, is so strong that we have rejected
every one and hope and expect, some Method will be fallen on
to indemnify them, without their being obliged to crouch to
our Enemies. The Assembly have not yet formed any Reso-
lutions for your Defence, we expect they soon will and that the
Measures adopted will be effectual. The Gentlemen of your
County promise to move for a Bill to cure all Doubts, as to the
Mode of forcing the Payment of the Fines of the Militia.

Quantity of Linen for Soldiers Shirts or Oznabrigs or course
Sheeting for Oueralls & Coatees on pretty good Terms, we
wish you to do so, a great Deal is wanted.

Present as on yesterday
Ordered That the western shore Treasurer Pay to Benjamin
Brooke three thousand Dollars out of the money remitted by
Congress for the Purchase of Provisions to be delivered over
and Charged to Thos Clagett Purchaser in Prince Georges
County
Capt. Robert Owen is appointed Agent for Purchasing
Provisions in Montgomery County in the room of William
Waters refused to Act
Colo John Hoskins Stone appointed Auditor General by the
General Assembly Qualified in presence of the Governor and
Council by taking the several Oaths directed in the Resolution
and Subscribing a Declaration of his Belief in the Christian
Religion and giving Bond with Thomas Stone Esquire Security
for the faithful Performance of his Duty as Auditor General.
Ordered That the western shore Treasurer pay to Samuel
Griffith two thousand Dollars out of the money remitted by
Congress for the Purchase of Provisions to be delivered over
and Charged to Capt. Robert Owen Purchaser of provisions
in Montgomery County
That the said Treasurer pay to Capt. Samuel Griffith three
hundred Dollars out of the money remitted by Congress for
the Recruiting Service to be charged to the third Maryland
Regiment.
That the said Treasurer pay to Elisha Winters three hun-
dred and thirty one Pounds seventeen Shillings and six Pence
due per Account pass'd by A G.
