[Council to J. Davidson.]

In Council 22d May 1778.
Sir
The Voluntary Offer of the Militia of Annapolis to go on
the Service requested by his Excellency General Washington,
necessary to be performed at and in the Neighbourhood of
the Head of Elk, is very acceptable. You are to proceed
with the Company in the Vessel provided for that Purpose to
the Head of Elk, where you'll join the other Militia engaged
in the same Service and be with them under the Command of
Charles Rumsey Esqr Lieutenant of Cecil County. When
the Service is ended, which is expected to be very short, you
will be discharged, and your Company is to return again by
Water, if a Vessel can be hired or pressed for the Purpose.
You will be careful to return the Public Arms & Accountre-
ments you receive and we request you will also bring with
you the 100 Stand of Arms sent up yesterday in the Inde-
pendence Galley. Colo Rumsey on your Request, will, we
expect, have those 100 Stand put up again, if taken out of
the Chests at all, and delivered to you. If, contrary to our
Expectation, the Matter should be spun out, we shall take
Measures to relieve you.
To Lieutenant John Davidson.
