             his    thought fit to suspend the swearing of the Councill

             Untill the next Morning and soe

      

        Adjourned till to Morrow Morning Seaven a Clock.

      

      

                         July 27th 1694.

      

               The Councill Mett & Satt and were pTsent as Yesterday

               His Exncies Comission for this Governmt was distinctly Read

             over and Ordered to be Recorded Vid. ffol 1.

               The Oaths Appointed by Act of Parliament to be taken

             instead of the Oaths of Allegiance & Supremacy were admin

             istred in Councill vnto his Excellency as likewise the Oath of

             Trade & Navigation.

               The Oath taken by Coll ffrancis Nicholson Governor of

             Maryland

               You shall swear that you will to the best of your skill and

             power so long as you shall continue in the Governmt and

             Comand of Maryland well & truly Execute and performe and

          p. 17  cause to be Executed and performed all Matters and things

             which by the Statute made in the 2th year of his late Maty

             King Charles the second his Reigne Entituled an Act for the

             Encourageing and increasing of Shipping and Navigation;

             and by the other Statute made in the 15th year of his said

             Maties Reigne, Entituled an Act for the Encouragemt of Trade,

             You are Required as Governor or Comander in Cheif of this

             Plantation to be sworne to the performance of.

                                           So help you God

      

       Whitehall His Exncy being acquainted by the Board that there was

             another Oath besides, Usually taken by the Governors of this

             Province, did therevpon demand to know if any Law of the

             Countrey had prescribed the same, the which not appearing

             his Exncy was pleased to tell them he did not thinke himself

             obliedged to take any other Oath then what their Mats aforesd

             Comission to him had directed and Appointed.

               Councillors Sworne. The severall Members of the Councill

             now present tooke likewise the Oaths appointed by Act of

       Whitehall Parliament to be taken instead of the Oaths of Allegiance &

             Supremacy as also the Usuall Oath of Councillor Afterwards,

             his Exncy and the severall Members of their Mats honoble

             Councill this day present, subscribed to the Test in manner

             following; Vizt
