                By his Exncy a Proclamation.   Lib. C. B.

    Proclama- Whereas their Mats by their Royall Comission to

    tion declareing the Governor of this Province have been pleased

    Sr Tho: to signifye their Will & pleasure that in case of the

     death or absence of the Governor and noe other

    &ca Person upon the place Coinissionated to be CoTh

    ander in Chiefe of this their said Province that then the

    Councill of Maryland should take upon them the Adminis

    tration of the Governmt & Executeing the said Comission

    and the severall Powers and Authorities therein contained

    And that the first Counsellor whoe should be at the time of

    the death or absence of the Governor or Comandr in Chiefe

    residing within this their Mats Province and Dominion doe

    Preside in the said Councill with such Powers & Prehemi

    nences as any former President hath Used & Enjoyed within

    the said Province or any other their Plantations in America

    Untill the Arrival of such Governor or Comander in Chiefe

    or their Mats pleasure should be further knowne therein And

    fforasmuch as their Mates have been pleased to Comand my

    present service in their Colony of Virginia and noe other

    person Upon the place Comissionated to be Commander in

    Chiefe of this their Province & Dominion pursueant therefore p. 76

    to their Mats Comission, I doe (by advice in Councill) in their

    Mats Names by this Proclamation Notifye & make knowne

    the Administration of the Governmt & the Execution of the

    said Coinission and the severall Powers and Authorities

    therein contained (for & dureing my absence, or their Mats

    pleasures further knowne) to be in the Councill of this their

    Mats Province and Dominion & the Honble Sr Thomas Lau

    rence Baronet to Preside therein Untill my Returne or further

    Orders, of which all Persons are to take Notice & Give due

    Obedience as they will Answer the contrary at their Perills;

    Given under my hand & the Great Seale of the Province at

    the City of St Maries the seaventh day of May Anno Domini

    1694 in the Sixth yeare of the Reign of Soveraign Lord &

    Lady King William & Queen Mary.
