             thereunto; to pass the Broad Seal of the province.

      

             James    Upon Reading an information of one James Heigh

             Heighs of the Clifts relating to a Privateer that lately came

         p. 390 information

             & Remark vp this Bay, as ffarr as the Upper End of the Clifts

             thereon &cca

      

      

               His Exncy and Honrs are pleased to Remark thereon, that if

       Whitehall the Governors of Carolina & New Providence do allow them

      

             selves the tolieration of fitting out Privateers and countenanc

             ing of them, as by certain information recd they have done to

             this, it will be of dangerous consequence to the rest of his

             Mats Governmts in these parts; especially Maryland & Virginia

             that lye so naked and open.

      

      

                    September the 17th 1696.

             Coll: Courts Read a Letter from the honrble Coll: John Courts

             Lre abt his of the 1 2th instant giving an Accot of a late fit of

              indisposition

             of body Sickness rendering him incapable to attend this

             admitted of Councill, therefore desired his absence might be

      

     Whitehall   Excused which accordingly was admitted, this Board being

             Sorry for his prsent indisposition.

      

             Coll. Jowles Read also a Letter from the honrble Coll: Henry

             Lre abs Jowles of the 14th Instant, desiring to be Excused

              his lameness

             likewise for his non-attendance, occasion'd through a great

             admitted of lameness, whereby he was disabled to Travell at

      

             present, but hoped to be better within a Week or ten days

             time, and then would give his attendance, if possible, whose

             Excuse was likewise in manner aforesd admitted.
