426 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1694 97.
Lib. H. D. in Writing, wch (after some time granted) he prsented to the Board accordingly; Ordered that the same be sent to the honoble James ffrisby Esqr.
Majr Dorsey Came the honoble Majr Edward Dorsey one of the Delivers the- . Broad Seal Commissionrs in Chancery & delivered at the Board &ca the Broad Seal of the province, which was by Ordr Whitehall surrender'd vp to the honobe Coll Henry Jowles Chancelour p. 315 for his keeping, during his Residence in Town. His Excell ency is pleased to acquaint the Board concerning some Goods lately imported in Capt Cheshires ship, now Riding at the port of Williamstadt on the Eastern Shore; how that by an Accot given by the honoble Coll John Courts, his Excell does vnderstand that Joshua Broadbent of Dorchestr County had by Order of the Merchant of the sd ship lately transported in his Sloop a considerable quantity of Goods from the sd Ves sell to Stafford County in Virginia without paying the Ten p Cent according to the late Act of Assembly or making any Report thereof, and by that meanes has defrauded his Maty of the sd Duty, as by the Examination of the severall Navall Officers had, does appear;
Joshua Ordered therefore that the high Sherriff of Dor Broadbent & Sloopr Order- chestr County do (vpon sight hereof) imediately edto be search for & seize as well the sd Sloop & Boat Seized thereto belonging as also take into his Custody the
body of the said Joshua Broadbent, so that he have the sd Broadbent before his Exncy in Councill with all convenient speed to Answer &ca

p. 318 The humble Petition of Richard Cheshire of Bristoll Marriner &ca Humbly Sheweth That your Petitionr being imployed by Sr John Duddleston of Bristoil to sell & dispose for him a Cargo of Goods for loading a ship, whereof your pets is Mastr and finding Tobacco very scarce in Maryland, and hearing it was plenty in Virginia did transport part of his Cargo into Virginia
