     Lib. H. U. of Potomock River in the Law mentioned as seems to have

            been intimated to your EXnCY and is affirmed to Us.

              If so We cannot discern the Owner or Exporter to be a

            wilifull Offender; being rather mislead by the Officer, whose

            principle business it was to direct and demand of him than by

            any willfull designs or intent in him to frustrate the Law,

            therefore with your Excell good pleasure We conceive his

            present paymt of the Duty will & may be sufficient satisfac

            tion to the sd Law &ca

     

     

                       May the 12th 1696

      Whitehall The Councill again Sate & were prsent as yesterday.

     

            &Th      Upon Representation, Ordered that the Sheriff

            Brough or. of Talbot County summons John Salter & fThomas

            dered to be Brough, that all Excuses set apart, they be &

            summoned appear before his Excell in Councill, at the port of

     

            Annapolis the first day of July next to Answer; And that

            John Salter bring with him the Agreemt by him Enter'd into

            about Talbot County Court house.

     

            Ckrks of the Whereas the Clerk of each respective County

             Court having (pursuant to Ordr) returned a List of

            perfecter their last County Leavy; but on pervsall of the

             Co: L  same, finding severall Articles therein not mention

            ing the Reason of such Allowances made;

      Ordered therefore that they Return a second List giving

             the Reason of every particular Article therein go charged and

             Allowed, vnto his Excell at the Port of Annapolis by the first

             day of July next.

     

                      May the 12th 1696.

     

              The said Report being Read was ordered to be indorsed

            thus, Vizt By his Exncy the Governr & Councill, &ca

     

                                          May the 12th 1696

              The within Report is Approved off & Ordered thereupon

            as it is hereby Ordered that the sd Cap' Cheshire paying or

            securing to be paid unto the Navall Officer of the Port of

            Williamstadt the Ten p Cent Duty for what goods were

            transported to Virginia in Mr Broadbents Sloop within men

            tioned, that the said Sloop be thereon dismissed from vnder

            Seizure.
