Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1693 94.
Lib. C. B. of the said Comission or Comissions after that their said Majties their heires & Successors shall Repeale them or any of them respectively and that the said Repeale be published within this Province; I will doe equall Justice to the Poore and to the Rich within this Province to my best skill Judgmt and Power, according to the Laws and Ordinances of the said Province, and in default thereof according to my conscience & best discretion, and the power Granted or to be Granted to me by their said Majties Cornission or Comissions I will not for feare favour or affection or any other Cause lett, hinder or delay Justice to any but will truely execute the said Office and Offices respectively according to their Comission to me in that behalfe, and to the true intent and meaning thereof and not otherwise to the best of my Understanding and Judgemt; I will not know of any attempt against their said Majties persons their Rights or Dominion in to or over the said Province, and the people therein, but I will prevent Resist and oppose it, to the Utmost of my power, and make the same knowne with all convenient speed to their said Majties and I will in all things from time to time as occasion shall require faithfully counsell and advise their said Majties accord ing to my heart and Conscience. Soe help me God.
A Councillors Oath.
I A: B: do sweare that I will be true and faithfull to their Mats King William and Queen Mary their heires and Succes sors and their Rights and Royall Jurisdictions all and every of them in to and over this their Province of Maryland and the lslands therevnto belonging I will at all times defend & Maintain to the Utmost of my power, and will never accept off nor Execute any place, Office or employmt within the said Province any way concerning or relating to the Governmt of the said Province from any person or Authority, but by from or vnder a Lawfull Authority derived or to be derived from time to time from their said Majties their heires & Successors the peace & Welfare of the People of this Province I will ever procure as tarr as I can, I will aid atid assist the admin istering & Execution of Justice in all things to my power, to none will I denye Right for feare favour or affection, I will to my best skill and according to my heart and conscience give good & faithfull Councill to their Majties their heires & Suc cessors and to their Governor or Comander in Chiefe for the time being, when therevnto I shall be called, I will keepe secret all Matters comitted or revealed vnto me, or which shall be Moved or debated secretly in Councill, and faithfully
