Lib. H. D. Mats loving subjects to be aiding & assisting to you the said Daniell Pierce in the due Execution of your sd Office. And for your trouble pains & care herein you are hereby allowed & Lu have paid you the sufflc of Twelve pounds sterl yearly during the continuance of this Commission; Given vnder my hand & Seal at the port of Annapolis the 5th day of March, in the Eigth year of the Reign of our Soveraign Lord King Wil liam the third &Ca Annoq Domini 1695/6
The Oath of Trade & Navigation vsually Administred vnto the severall Collectors Navall Officers & Riding Surveyors within this province, Vizt
You shall swear that you will to the best of your Navigation skill & power so long as you shall continue &ca within the of well & truly Execute & perform and cause to be Executed & performed all matters & things which by the Statute made in the 12th year of his late Maty King Charles the second his Reign Entituled an Act for the Encouraging & increasing of Shipping & Navigation; and by the other Statute made in the 15th year of his said Mats Reign, intituled an Act for the Encouragemt of Trade, you are Required as Navall Officer within the District aforesd to be sworn to the performance of, and all the Laws of this Coun trey relating to trade & Navigation. I: A: B. do swear that I do from my heart abhorr, detest & abjure as impious & hereticall, that damnable doctrine & position that Princes excommunicated or deprived by the Pope or any Authority of the Sea of Rome may be deposed or Mur dered by their subjects or any other power. And I do declare that no fforraign Prince person, prelate State or Potentate hath or ought to have any Jurisdiction, power Superiority or Authority Ecclesiasticall or Spirituall within the Kingdom of England or the Dominions therevnto belonging. So help me God.
