Coll Jowles by Law ought to do, hereby likewise Empowering Lib. H. D. the sd Majr Dorsey for to sign all Instruments in the absence P. 246 of Coll Jowles, proper for the Keeper to sign to. Produced & Read a Proclamation forbidding the Exportation of Corn, being prepared at the Request of the Burgesses of the House Whitehall of Assembly &ca & was signed by his Exncy & passed the Broad Seal of the province; the said Proclamation follows in these Words, Vizt

A Proclamation Maryland ss. Whereas it hath been Represented vnto me that Proclama- through the vnseasonableness of the late Summer &
tion agt Exportation this fall will be occasioned small quantities of Corn of Corn &Ca to be made within the severall Counties of this
province; And forasmuch as it is also given out that the gen erality of the people have already spent their Crops of Wheat, out of meere necessity drove thereto, for want of Indian Corn, become scarce throughout the whole Province by means of Whitehall the excessive sharpness of the last Winter season, being launcht out in such abundance for the support of the inhabi tants stocks of Cattell & hoggs; therefore to prevent the Exportation of any Indian Corn or English grain during this likelyhood of Scarcity, I have (by & with the advice of his Mats honoble Councill, as also at the Speciall instance & request of the Worshipfull the House of Burgesses in Assembly now convened) thought fit for the Reasons aforesd to publish & proclame, and I do hereby accordingly strictly Order & Com mand that no person whatsoever inhabitant or otherwise within this province do (after the publication hereof) presume to Carry or load on Board any Ship, Sloop, Shallop, boat, Canoe, or other bottom, any Indian Corn, Wheat or English grain, with intent to Export the same, and that no Master or Owner of any such Ship, Sloop, Shallop, boat, Canoe or other bottom Receive or take on Board their sd Vessells, any Indian Corn, Wheat or English grain as afordsd with any intent other than to transport the same from one place to another for the Supply of the inhabitants within this province & for their necessary support in their Voyage, vnder pain & perill of the p. 247 parties (therein found offending) being prosecuted according to the vtmost severity of the Law for contempt; And to the end due notice hereof may be given I do further strictly charge & Command ilie severall Sherriffs of the Province to make Proclamation hereof in the most publick & convenient places within their respective Counties, to which all persons are
