    cers Bond Know all men by these prsents that we Samuel p. 218

    &ca Watkins of the Province of Maryland Gentl. and

    Robert Smith & Robert Mason Esqr are holden and firmly

    bound unto his Exncy Francis Nicholson Esqr his Mats Capt

    Genll and Chief Governr of this Province in the full and Just

    Sume of one thousand pounds of Lawfull Money of England

    to be paid to the said Francis Nicholson Esqr his Exrs Admrs

    or assigns to the which paymt well & truly to be made wee

    bind ourselves & either of us by himselfe our and either of our

    heirs Exrs & Admrs Joyntly and Severally, for the whole & in

    the whole firmly by these presents Witness our hands and

    Seales this 20th day of August Annoq Domi: 1695

     The Condition of the aboue written Obligation is such that

    whereas his Exncy Francis Nicholson Esqr afd hath Comission

    ated and appointed the said Samuell Watkins to be Navall

    Officer for the District of Petuxant River wthin the said Prov

    ince by his Comission bearing equall Date wth these presents

    Now if the said Saml Watkins shall well and truly perform the

    said Office according to the severall Acts of Parliamt in that

    Case made and provided and shall Observe the directions

    contained in the Acts of Assembly of this Province relating to

    the Duty of Navall Officers & from time to time Save defend

    & keep harmless the said Francis Nicholson Esqr from all

    Damage loss or charges that he the said -Francis Nicholson

    Esqr shall sustain at any time by reason of the said Watkins

    non performance of his said Office (so long as he shall enjoy

    the same) as in the said Severall Laws is Enacted & ordained

    then the aboue Obligation to be Void & of none Effect

    otherwise to be & remaine in full force & Vertue.
