Lib. H. D. are contained the principall Laws for Managemt of the Cus toms in England, and also the principal1 Laws relating to the Plantacon Trade, Vizt The Act of Navigation made in the 12th year of his late Mats Reign and the aforesaid Act made in the 25th year of his said Mats Reign for better securing the Plan tacon Trade; And you are to Conforme your self to the severall Rules for Managing the Customs here according to the said Laws wherein the same are practicable with you. 2: You are before you Enter vpon this Imploymt to take an Oath before the Governor or DeptY Governor of Maryland for your true and faithfull discharge thereof; And whereas there are severall Rivers for the Collection of the said Rates, Duties and Impositions in the said Province of Maryland where you cannot be your self, You are to have a sufficient Deputy (for whom you will answer) in each of the said Rivers or places to Attend the Execution of your Imploy And you are your self or your Deputy with the Collector joyntly to Signe one of the two Bills of Entry brought in by the Merchant of all such Enumerated plantacon Goods as shall be Entered by him, which is to be a Warrant to you or your Deputy to Examine the Goods by And you are from time to time to inspect the Books of Entries and Accompts of the said Collector to see that due Entries be made of all Warrants Granted by him And to take care that no greater quantity of Goods be shipt than for what there is a warrant from the said Collector And if more Goods be shipt than for which the Duty shall be paid or Agreed for You are to Seize & prosecute the same accord ing to Law. 4: And if any of the said Goods chargable which the Duties imposed by the said Act of the 25th year of his late Majties Reign shall be loaden on Board any ship or Vessell before the Master of such ship or Vessell hath made Entry thereof according to the Act for preventing ifrauds and the Statute made primo Eliz: Cap: II. Such Master is lyable to the penalty of One hundred pounds by virtue of the said Laws. 5: And Whereas the Act made in the 22d & 23d years of his late Majts Reign for Regulating the Plantacon Trade is Expired you are to take Notice that ships may give Bond according to the aforesaid Act of Navigation to Return to England or Ireland; But you are also to take Notice that the said Act of the 25th of the King imposeth the Duties therein mentioned vpon the Enumerated plantacon Goods in Case they be loaden before Bond be Given to bring them to England, Wales or Berwick and to no other place, That there fore where the Bond given before Lading shall be to Carry p. 86 the said Goods to England or Ireland or any other of his Mats Plantacons That all such Enumerated Goods are lyable to the
