Lib. H. D. Randolph had taken a bribe of Twinty peices of Eight to discharge A person whom he had Ordered to be Sued upon A Plantation Bond fforfieted the other two depositions of hear say and not upon the Knowledg of either of the Deponts but the rest of the Councill not seeing Cause why their Majties Orders relateing to Mr Randolphs Admittance ought not to be Observed He was Admitted and sworne of the Councill Accordingly His Execncy Comanding that Authentick Coppys of the s'd Papers should be sent to the Honoble the Comis sionrs of their Majties Customs in the Port of London. W Randolph haveing Reced Coppys of the Aformenconed papers hid humbly move to make his defence and thereupon p. 76 produced Sevrll papers Atested to be Originalls As alsoe Atested Coppeys of Letters relating to his defence wch were allowed of in Councill and he alsoe prayed further time till he could have an Attstation from Under the Seale of the Governmt of New York Relateing to his prosecuteing upon the Aformencond forfieted plantation Bond. ernmt 500 lb Sterr paid him by this Governmt the was done in Manner following Vizt That his Excency the last time he came over to this Governmt wch was begining of May last calling for an Accot from their Majties Receiver and Navall Officers of the Revenue belonging to this Governmt wch being produced and perused he finding at that time a certaine banck Whitehall and fund of Money Remaining in their Majties Receivers hands did Say that he believed the Revenue of this Governmt was as Large as that of Virginia and therefore hoped that he might be considered for his Services here & Expenses disbursed in Undertakeing that Journey wch he said had been exterordi nary and to the hazard of his life proposing that ffour or ffive hundred pounds might be Ordered him out of the said Reve nue Whereupon ffive hundred pounds Sterr was Ordered to be paid him by their Majties Receiver out of the 15d p hogshead
