or Act of this Assembly and that their Majties will pass a
gratious construction of what wee with true & Loyall hearts
& Sincerity to their Service haue permitted & Consented to
in the premisses.

And Sr Thomas Laurence doth humbly Represent in his own
behalfe That on the 25th day of September when Sr Edmond
Andros produced his Comission in Councill upon the Reading
thereof Sr Thomas Beleiveing that Sr Edmond was authorized
by their Majties to take the Governmt of Maryland upon the
Absence of Coll: Copley & the Death of Capt ffrancis Nichol-
son then Lievetent Governr which termes are twice Repeated
in the said Comission Speakeing then first in Councill did put
the question whether Sr Edmond and the Board were Satis-
fyed or any wayes assured That Coll Nicholson was dead ;
upon which Question Sr Edmond Seemeing much vneasy Sr
Thomas did further add that it was a proper Question for
that if Sr Edmond had not Come into Maryland with that
Comission their Majts Authority did fully Subsist in Maryland
upon their Comission Given to and Executed by Coll Copley
lately deceassed & which in Case of his Death if noe person
particularly Commissionated by their Majts did Devolve upon
their Majts Councill untill their pleasure were further Knowne.

But the Members of their Majties Honoble Covncill Being
unanimously of Opinion That Sr Edmond Andros his sd
Comission ought notwithstanding to take place Sr Thomas
did acquiesse not thinking it fit to Enter any particular dissent
to the Genll Sence of the Honoble Board Least he might seem
to shew a Spirit of Opposition to the concurrent opinion of the
Covncill And which hoped under soe Experienct a Governt as
Sr Edmond Andros might yet prove most Advantageous to
their Majties service
Wherefore for whatsoever fault he may haue Comitted by
such his Consent he Obediently Submits himself to his Majties
Judgmt and Most Humbly Begs his pardon.
