             		MARYLAND ACTS-OCT., 1780.


    An ACT for the defence of the bay
    "Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
governor and council be authorised and requested to purchase (or
cause to be built) and fitted with sails and oars, and manned as soon as
possible, four large barges or row-boats, capable of carrying swivels and
twenty five men at least; and that the governor and council be also
authorised and requested to purchase (or cause to be built) as soon as
possible, one galley, capable of carrying two eighteen and two nine
pounders, with swivels; and one sloop or schooner, capable of carrying
ten four pounders, and procure them to be well found, fitted, armed,
and manned.
