             MARYLAND ACTS--JUNE, 1780.

   	"An ACT to procure recruits to complete the battalions of this state
in the service of the United States, and to raise an additional regiment,
if necessary.
   	Whereas it has been represented by congress, and by letters from
general Washington and the committee of co-operation, that it is abso
lutely necessary to bring a powerful army into the field this campaign;
and it appearing to this general assembly their indispensable duty to
make the most vigorous exertions to recruit the quota of troops of this
state
   	Be it therefore enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That fourteen hundred men be forthwith raised, and that the same be
apportioned among the several counties. . . . Out of which number,
so apportioned, each county shall have a deduction for all able bodied
men heretofore enlisted in virtue of the act passed at November session,
seventeen hundred and seventy-nine, entitled, An act for recruiting the
quota of troops of this state in the American army.
