them with it, that they be as carefull to keepe the Covenant
Chain unspotted on their parts towards you, as you have been,
& have soe freely declared towards them.
Wee doe assure you, we shall not looke upon you angrily
or contemptibly, or despise you, neither have wee since wee
were at Amity with you, but as our friends & brethren &
shall soe doe for the ffuture.
And for your desire that you may pass and repass, and
make fires in any of our parts, as you may have occasion to
travell about your law full occasions without watch or feare as
formerly, according to the peace formerly made at Albany, we
ratifie and confirme the same to you.
And now we take notice that you declare your readiness in
the behalf of all your nations that sent you hither to confirme
and renew the peace formerly made with you all for and in the
behalf of all the English in Virginia and Maryland, and all the

Indians under the protection of our greate King; Wee think
well of you, and doe declare our hearty friendship to you, that
you have beene soe mindfull to come to us, and that the Chain
of the Covenant may be handled and looked over on both
parts, that if there should be any rust upon any link, we may
see whose it is, that by them it be rubb'd and made bright, and
the whole chain kept strong; and as we hope it will be your
care, soe wee assure you it shall be ours and we shall signifie
to all English and Indians within the league and covenant con-
firmed this day, that the chaine be kept bright & cleane never
to rust or decay, but may remaine firm while the sun and
Moone endures.
And now we hope all is done to the greate satisfaction of
us & you and that when you returne to your severall greate
men they will be well pleased, and receive you with joy, and
satisfaction, as good messengers: In testimony of our good
likeing we take up your severall prsents and now present you
with —
And also for your paines and travell doe give to every one
of you that have soe willingly and truly behaved yourselves in
this greate worke, a matchcoate, and some powder and shott
to kill meate on your journey, and come to satisfie your hunger
in your travells, that you may be encouraged to come to us
again at the time appointed by the Articles agreed on; And
now the Conclusion of all is, wee doe conclude you to be our
friends and Brothers.
And now last of all haveing soe often handled the Chain of
Covenant we doe find some spotts of Rust upon one link,
which wee desire you will use your endeavour to see made
bright and cleane, that not one link may decay and that is a
link the Onneydes have neglected to keepe cleane, ffor after
