The Deposition of Gilbert Clarke of St Maries County aged
seaven and Twenty yeares or thereabouts
The Deponent upon oath examined saith that some time
since about the latter end of July or begining of August last,
he meeteing with one John Mitchell of the aforesaid County,
he asked him where he was goeing, and from whence he
came, he said from aboard the Mann of Warr, whereat the
Deponent (not haveing heard of any such thing) laughed, to
which the said Mitchell answered, and did assert with an oath
that there was a mann of Warr, and he was on board him, and
they had like to have putt Mr Watson in the Bilboads; but the
Deponent lookeing upon it as a Story parted with the sd
Michell, and comeing to Mr Watsons house, related to him
what he had heard of Mitchell, to which Watson replyed that
they had had some words, that the Command' did say that
they were fooles and puppyes that paid my Lord the two
shillings p hhd. for that it was the Kings due, and not my
Lord Baltemores, And that the Setting up the ffort neere
Pensylvania by Coll Talbott was ill resented by Coll Dougan,
and would doe my Lord an injury in the business of Penn at
home.

The Deposition of John Mitchell of St Maries County aged
five or six and thirty yeares or thereabouts
The Deponent upon oath examined saith that sometime the
last summer being on board the Mann of Warr Ketch in
Pottomock River in Company with Mr John Watson and
others, he heard the said Watson ask the Command' Capt
Thomas Allen how he dare come up soe farr into the River,
to which he replyed he was in the Kings River, and was the
Kings Shipp, the said Watson replyed it was the Lord Balte-

mores River, The Commandr still affirmed it was the Kings,
and that the two shillings p hogshead was the Kings due, and
he should have it, The said Watson replyed again it was my
Lords, and was given him by the Countrey, and none could
keepe him from it
