Benja Hamlins Depos:

Benjamin Hamlin aged thirty yeares being duely sworne
and Examined at request of Majr James Ringold saith
That he was at the house of Mr Tovey the day of his death,
And as to the demanding a sight of all the goods of the said
deed: of the then Relict of said Tovey by Majr Ringold, he
knows nothing, nor any threatning of the sd Anne Tovey by
the said Ringold, or demanding any keys, or any nameing of a
Constable he knowes nothing, This Deponent did heare by
the parties then present that there was keys delivered to

Josias Lanham, but to the breakeing open any Chests by the
said Ringold or any other person he knows nothing there
was some discourse that day betweene Majr Ringold & Anne
Tovey about an Admration, the said Mrs Tovey replyed she
knew not but that Major Ringold was the best friend she had
in Maryland: To the promiseing the said Mrs Tovey by Majr
Ringold that if he did administer she should have a Chamber
furnished he knows nothing, neither did this Deponent heare
Major Ringold threatten to turn the said Mrs Tovey out of
doores as to any thing done at the house of Samuel Tovey
November the 14th he knows nothing and further saith not

Josias Lanham's Depos:

Josias Lanham aged 35 yeares being duely sworne &
examined at request of Major James Ringold Saith

That he was at the house of Mr Tovey the day on which he
dyed, and as to Majr Ringold saying as he was a Justice, and
his Sonn in Law a Constable he would breake open the
Chests, he heard noe such words spoken, but being in com-
pany with others then prsent I was desired by the said Com-
pany to goe to Mrs Tovey & acquaint her to have a search for
a will, the said persons present beleiveing there might be a
will, and it was upon noe other acco' (as this Deponent
beleives) that the said will was Enquired for, but onely upon
and in relation to said Mr Toveys Children in England and for
their good; This Deponent the same day of Mr Toveys death,
acquainted Mrs Tovey of what the Company desired, and the
said Mrs Tovey went into the Store with this Dept and opened
One Chest, and after the opening of the said Chest, the said
Anne replyed now I care not who comes in to see what there
is, upon which Hans Hanson, and Major Ringold went in, and
there was two Chests more open with the consent of the said
Anne, one of the Chests had a lock the other none, This
