more County that upon sight hereof you cause the Inhabitants
of your County under your charge and Command forthwith
to stand upon their guard and posture of Defence; And if in
case you shall discover or meete with any the aforesaid
Enemys in or about any the ffrontire or other Plantacons of
your County, you are to use your best care skill and endeav-
our according to the utmost of your strength power and
ability to fight kill take vanquish overcome pursue follow and
destroy them, and otherwise deale and treate with them as
the common Enemy ffor all wch this shall be your Sufficient

power. Given under our hand and lesser Seale of this Prov-
ince the ffifteenth Day of September in the Sixth yeare of our
Dominion &c Annoq Dmi 1681 :

Maryland ss:
Whereas wee are credibly and certainly informed & advised
of severall insolencies outrages and attempts daily Offered
unto & made upon the Inhabitants of this Province by the
Northern Indians plundering robbing and murdering the said
Inhabitants as by their frequent Clamours and Complaints in
our Eares is sett forth. Wee doe therefore hereby strictly
charge and command you Coll William Chandler of Charles
County Immediately upon sight hereof to cause all the Inhabi-
tants of your said County under your charge and Command
to stand and be upon their guard and posture of Defence ;
And if you shall discover or meete with any the said Indians
in or about any the ffrontire or other Plantations of your

County, you are to use your best care skill and Endeavour
according to the utmost of your strength, power, and ability
to fight, kill take vanquish, overcome follow pursue and
Destroy them, and otherwise to deale with and treate them as
the common Enemy, ffor all wch this shall be your sufficient
Power. Given under our hand and the lesser Seale of this
our sd Province of Maryland the ffifteenth Day of September
in the Sixth yeare of our Dominion &c. Annoq Domini
1681.

Idem (Mutatis mutandis) issued to Coll William Calvert of
St Maries County and to Coll Henry Darnall and Coll
Henry Jowles of Calvert County and were delivered into his
Lspps hands for Conveyance.
