us, and the people of Maryland, and be also a meanes wholly
to remoove all jealousies from the English which the late
Actions of the said Prisoner may have wrought in them
towards their Indians, If the said King will Comand some of
his owne Subjects to be the Executioners of such Judgemt and
sentence as you shall upon a full heareing of all matters &
passages think convenient to pass upon the said Prisoner ;
and this (if possibly you cann) to be performed in the presence
of the said King; but in case of their refuseall, then your sen-
tence to be Executed by the Sheriff of the County who is
hereby Authorised and Impowered as also willed and required
to performe the same.
3dly And if you find the sd King and his greate men

inclinable (as wee are informed they arc) to have the 3d

prisoner banish'd to some remote parts beyond the Seas, you
are then to lett that be the other part of your sentence upon
him; but in case they are not soe inclined as aforesd and that
you think it not prudent nor Safe for the Province to banish
him peremptorily without their consents, you are then to
moove it to the said King and his greate men what security
or way they will propose, that the English may remaine Satis-
fied for the future, that the said Indian prisoner will not out of
Malice and revenge act any further mischiefe on the persons
or Estates of the English of this Province.
Adding that you are obleiged and must require such Satis-
faction herein, as assure the English there will be noe further
breach of the Articles of peace, which is (and by them ought to
be Esteemed) a greater Concern to them then to the Inhabi-
tants of this Province.
4thly And lastly when you shall have fully Executed yor
Cofnission pursuant to these yor Instructions, you are then to
cause your proceedings to be fairely writt by your Clark, and
by him transmitted under a Covert to our Secrys for the tyme
being that due Record thereof may be kept in their Office of
what shall be done herein.
Given at Battle Towne under our hand and Seale at Armes
the ffifteenth Day of ffebruary in the nineth yeare of our
Dominion &c. Annoq Dmi. 1683:
