The Deposition of Jas Reid of the City of Annapolis who
being duly sworn, saith that on or about the 27th day of Augt
in conversation with a certain Wm Gordon who had a warrt to
serve on Robt Ridgs at the suit of Wm Nevin, the said Gordon
informed this deponent, that at the time he served the said
warrt on Ridgs, he heard Ridgs say that Wm Nevin had wrote
a letter to Lord Dunmore, offering his services to his Ldp in
any thing that lay in his power acquainting him of the situa-
tion of the city & where he might land his forces, and that the
said Ridgs further said that he knew something further of
Nevin which he would discover & tell, upon being properly

Friday, January 24. 1777.
Council met. Present as on yesterday, except Mr Worth-
ington.
Ordered That the Western Shore Treasurer pay to Lieu t.
Levin Lawrence ninety nine Pounds sixteen Shillings and
three Pence.
That the said Treasurer pay to Miss Rebecca Carter forty
Shillings and six Pence.
That the said Treasurer pay to Doctr John Hanson Briscoe
five Pounds fourteen Shillings: also the further Sum of thirty
Pounds.
Adjourned till next day, 10 O'Clock.

[Charles Rumsey to Council.]
Gentlemen. Cecil County Jany 24th 1777.
Yours of the 14th December came to hand, ordering my
Battalion to hold themselves in readiness: also Brigadier Genl
Chamberlaine's dated the 16th of said month to the same pur-
pose, and the Resolve of Congress relative to their applying
to the Committee for assistance. The committee of this
County has given no orders.
Collo Hollingsworth wrote by post, informing the State of
the Battalion, that the best guns had been purchased from us
