98 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1 676.
Lib. R. R. person and see that he be provided with ten pounds of
biskett. And that the respective Captaines send downe to
the Deputy Governour their Muster Rolls.
p. 77 Ordered that notice be given to the Comissionrs of each
respective County to give the Deputy Governour an accompt
of the names of the pressmasters and providers of provisions
in each respective hundred.
In case the Pascattaway Indians desire any men to assist
them it is resolved that forty or fifty men be appointed for
that purpose.
That no person presume to give a false Alarm and that all
persons are required to give Alarm when Occasion requires
by fireing three Guns distinctly One after the other, and all
persons that heare the same are to answer it accordingly.
And the next military Officer of the County is hereby Ordered
to enquire of the true cause thereof & to give notice of the
same with all Speed to the Deputy Governour.
That a Messenger be sent to Virginia and that the Chan-
cellour be desired to write to Collonel Spencer or some other
person to enquire the truth of Affaires there.
That no person or persons whatsoever fire any Gunn after
Sunsett unlesse upon Occasion of an alarm, as he or they will
answer the contrary at their utmost perills.
Whereas the Lord Proprietary and Councell have made
peace with the Pascattoway Chingwaticke Mattawomen Nan-
gemy & Choptico Indians and bound Ourselves to mutuall
assistance, if any Officer or Soldier shall strike any of those
Indians or any other Indian now in amity or hereafter to be
in amity with his said Lordshipp being marching with us or
in Garrison with us, shall be punished with death, or other
punishment at the discretion of the Generall Court Marshall.
And if any private Soldier shall abuse by words any of the
said Indians such private Soldier shall be punished by riding
the wooden horse runing the Gantlope or other such like
punishment at the discretion of the Court Marshall or the
Comander in Cheife then present.
Ordered that the aforegoing Orders relateing to the Militia
be added to the Articles of warr.
The Councell consent to meete at St Maries upon thursday
next being the thirteenth day of this instant July, and so every
thursday One thursday at St Maries and One thursday here
at Mattopanye.
