Samuel Bourne, Roger Brooke, Richard Ladd, John Griggs,
Thomas Sterling, Thomas Brooke, Richard Marsham, George
Lingan, John Craycroft, ffrancis Collier, ffrancis Hutchins, and
Samuel Taylor gentl greeteing. Know yee that wee for the
greate trust and confidence wee have in your ffidelityes cir-
cumspections, prudences and wisdomes, have Constituted,
ordeined and appointed, and doe by these presents constitute
ordeine and appoint you the said Samuel Bourne, Roger
Brooke, Richard Ladd, and John Griggs, Thomas Sterling,
Thomas Brooke, Richard Marsham, George Lingan, John
Craycroft ffrancis Collier ffrancis Hutchins and Samuel Taylor
gentl Comissioners jointly & severally to keepe the peace in
Calvert County, and to keepe and cause to be kept all Laws
and orders made for the good and conservation of the peace,
and for the quiett rule & government of the people in all and
every the Articles of the same, and to chastise and punish all
persons Offending against the forme of any the Lawes and
orders of our sd Province or of any of them in Calvert County
aforesaid as according to the forme of those lawes and orders
shall be fitt to be done, We have also constituted and
ordeined you and every four or more of you (of which you
the said Samuel Bourne, Roger Brooke, Richard Ladd, and
John Griggs (unless some one of our Councill be present) are
also to be) Our Commissioners to enquire by the oathes of
good and lawfull men of your County aforesaid of all manner
of ffellonies, Witchcrafts, Inchantmts Sorcerys, Magic, arts,
Trespasses, fforestallings, Ingrosseings and extortions whatso-
ever and of all and singular other misdeeds and Offences of
which Justices of the peace in England may or ought lawfully
to enquire by whomsoever or whensoever done or perpe-
trated or which hereafter shall happen to be done or perpe-
trated in the County aforesaid against the Laws and orders
of our said Province, Provided you proceed not in any of the
Cases aforesaid to take life or member, but that in every such
case you send the prisoners with their Indictments and the
whole matter depending before you to the next Provinciall
Court to be holden for our said Province, whensoever or
wheresoever to be holden, there to be tryed. And further
wee doe hereby Authorise you to issue Writts, processes,
Arrests, and Attachmts To hold plea of Oyer and terminer,
and after judgement Execution to award in all causes civill
whither in actions reall or personall according to the Lawes
orders and reasonable customs made and vsed in our said
Province of Maryld in which causes civill soe to be tryed Wee
Doe constitute ordeine and appoint you Samuel Bourne,
Roger Brooke, Richard Ladd and John Griggs to be Judges
as aforesaid, unless some One of our Councill be then in
