and that they take the Examination of Major Coursey and Mr
Thomas Vaughan with what other English Evidences they
shall think fitt touching the premisses, and that (if for their
better discovery they shall see occasion) they send for Tequas-
sino and what other Indians they think fitt to Examine con-
cerning the same, or otherwise before they proceed soe farr
that they send downe to his Lspp and Councill the English
Examinations by them taken if to them it shall seeme most
proper soe to doe for the better discovery thereof.
Accordingly issued and was Directed to Coll Lowe and
Coll Lloyd the following power and order from this board viz

Whereas Information hath this day been given to his Ldspp
and Councell that in or about the beginning of June last past,
One or two and twenty Indians belonging to the Kings
Tequassino and Hattsawapp of Choptank in Talbott County
went abroad under pretence that they went to Coll Taylors
and John Watkinsons, and that Tequassino was heard to say
some of his Indians were abroad, he wished there might be
noe mischiefe done before they returned for he knew not
Designe they went upon, That onely half of the said Indians
that went out returned home, whom some English perceiveing

endeavoured to speake with but could not the Indians avoid-
ing them, And whereas about a ffortnight after the said
Indians went from their Towne, the murder was committed
neere Point Looke Out.
These are therefore to Authorise and Empower as also to
will and Require you Coll Vincent Lowe and Coll Philemon
Lloyd of Talbott County aforesaid to call before you Major
William Coursey and Thomas Vaughan of the County afore-
said gentl and such others whom you shall think fitt to
Examine upon oath or otherwise concerning the premisses in
order whereunto you are exactly to enquire and informe
yourselves the time when the Indians sett forth, what number
of them, whither they went what their business, where they
were all the time of their absence, when they returned part of
them what became of the rest, why they refused or avoided to
speake with the English, and all other pregnant Circum-
stances relateing thereunto, wherein you are to make all Dili-
gent search and scrutiny to find out the truth; ffor the better
effecting whereof you are (if you see occasion) to Examine also
Tequassino and what other Indians you think fitt concerning
the same upon such necessary propositions as to you shall
seeme meete relateing to the premisses, or otherwise you are
