Business and the reason of such their warlike posture, and if
they shall appeare to be Enemyes or shall refuse to speake
with you and give you such Accompt as aforesaid you are to
endeavour to compell them thereunto by force of Armes, &
otherwise to deale with them as a Common Enemy according
to the tenor of your Commission; And upon occasion you are
to call to your aid and assistance Capt Henry Tripp of your
said County with a party of ffoote to consist of such and soe
many men well armed and provided as you both shall think
fitt and conclude to be necessary for the end and purpose
aforesaid, Whose aid and Assistance the said Capt Henry
Tripp is hereby willed and required to afford you accord-
ingly.
An Accompt of your proceedings you are from time to
time (as often as shall be convenient) to remitt unto us with
all Convenient speed. And for soe Doeing this shall be your
warrant. Given under our hand and Seale at Armes the
seaventeenth Day of June Anno Domini One thousand six
hundred Eighty One.
Maryldss. Whereas for the Quiet and Security of the Inhabi-
tants of Dorchester County Wee have Authorized and
empowered Major Thomas Taylor of the same County to
range with his troope (when and as often as occasion shall
require) in any part of the said County for the discovery of
any Enemy that may attempt or Designe any violence or
injury to the Inhabitants there, And have also given order to
the sd Taylor (upon occasion) to call unto his aid and Assist-
ance Capt. Henry Tripp of the said County with a party of
ffoote to consist of such and soe many men well armed and
provided as they shall both think necessary and Convenient
for such Occasion.
Wee Doe therefore hereby Authorise and Empower as also
charge and command you the said Captn Henry Tripp (when

and as often as you and the said Taylor shall see convenient)
to afford your aid and assistance as aforesaid either by joine-
ing with him or marching yourself with such and soe many of
your Company well provided as shall be thought necessary
for the discovery of any Enemy as aforesd And in case you
meete with any Indians armed or painted or otherwise sup-
posed Enemies you are to endeavour to speake with them
and Demand of them their Nation, their business, and the
reason of such their warlike posture, and if they shall appeare
to be Enemies or shall refuse to speake with you, and give
you such Accompt as aforesaid, you are to endeavour to com-
pell them thereunto by force of armes and otherwise to deale
with them as a common Enemy according to the tenor of your
