Tuesday the 29th instant Councill to sitt at S( Maries upon
matters relateing to Land, from whence they adjourne to
Mattapony the same Day.

At a Councill held at Mattapony the 29th Day of June Anno
1680:

Then taken into Consideration the Tenor of Coll Wells
Letter of the 4th instant to his Lspp adviseing that the Sinniquo
Troopes intend downe about July or August.
Proposed by his Lspp to his Councill whither or noe it might
be Convenient to endeavor to speake with the said Indians
and treate with them touching the late league made with
them in ordr to prevent their makeing any Incursions upon
the ffrontire Plantations that lye in their roade, what meanes
were fitt to be vsed for that purpose and who they looked
upon as the most proper man to be Employed therein.
Upon mature Deliberation and Consultation whereof had
it was Concluded and Advised to be very materiall and neces-
sary to speake and have Conference with the said Indians in
their march downe, and that Jacob Young being a pson that
undrstands well the language of the said Indians is the fittest
man they cann think to propose to his Lspp for that purpose.
It was therefore ordered that the said Jacob Young be accord-

p. 140 ingly Employed with power and Authority from this Board to
lye in waite at or neere the house of Mr Anthony Demon-
didier or else where in their way downe, and by all meanes
possible endeavr to speake with them and lett them know
that his Lspp had a greate Desire to see and conferr with some
of their greate men touching their league with us in ordr to
renew and Confirme the Articles betweene us and to that
End and purpose would give them a meeteing in Anne
Arrundll County whither (if they consented) Jacob Young was
to Accompany them downe and apply himself to Coll Wm
Burges who should be required immediately to give notice of
their arrivall to his Lspp and his Councell with all expedition
possible, And that the said Indians should be assured of a
Safe Conduct backwards and forwards.
