Coll Wells sent downe to his Lspp: and it was approoved of by
him and noe waies countermanded; I had noe reason but to
observe it also, thereupon there have been severall parties
that have ranged and marched out wch have been allowed off
and noe waies contradicted. 1 hope I have committed noe
offence in marching to the assistance of the Distressed, and
placeing those in their plantations that were fled

Yor Lspp: This Day I recd: a Letter from Major Long that
informes me that upon the view of the Inhabitants of Potapscoe
hundred he finds them very weeke, and not able to assist
one another, the strongest ffamilies being but weake &
Desires tenn or twelve men to be raised to strengthen the
ffrontires to keepe them from deserting and in obedience to
yr Lspps ordr I have sent to Coll Wm Burges for the same
Quantity being not able to raise them noe part of this County,
but doe hope that we shall not neede noe more unless an
open warr does breake out wch God forbid; I have also given
notice to the Inhabitants of Caecill County as yor Lspp: ordered
me, and have now found the ordr wch Mr Waterton reflects
upon in his answer, a Coppy whereof I sent yr Lspp: the last
yeare, wch yor Lspp approoved off, least it may not be ready at
hand I have Inclosed sent yr Lspp another Coppy that it may
appeare how close Mr Waterton kept to his ordrs the men that
marched undr his Command were not ashamed to owne that
they would ha' killed any Indians that they mett withall be
they what they would, and because the Instructions I sent him
did not please him he Incensed the people against me insoe-
much that when they heard I by your Lspps ordr had called him
before me, they were disturbed and said it were better I had
not Done it as I am now informed by Mr Jacob Jenifer, his
Evill nature is such that unless yor Lspp will be pleased to putt
him out of all Office wherein I am Honred in serveing yr Lspp I
must begg that yor Lspp in favour will putt out me, for he has
his parties at Court and else where that sayes they will stand
by him with their bloods what the meaneing is I know not,
but this two of yr Lspps Justices heard one say and severall
others have not been ashamed to affront yr Lspps Justices in
