Lib. R. Wherefore his Lspp doth think it better for the Pascattoways
and Mattawomans to remoove with their wives and Children
to Nantecoke for some time till the Virginians doe see that
the Sinniquos doe murdr their people, and that we may have
time to procure them a firme peace with the Sinniquos &
Susquesahannoghs
And his Lspp: doth expect to have timely notice from the
Emperor of his Resolution to remoove to Nantecoke that he
may provide Sloopes. Signed p ordr

James Smallwood was also at the same time appointed Post
for Charles County according to the following ordr (viz:)

By the Lord Propry & Councill
Ordered that a Post be appointed in Charles County for
conveyance of all publick Intelligence from thence to his Lspp:
and his Councill and that James Smallwood of the same
County be and he is hereby authorised and empowered to
Officiate the same upon such reasonable Sallary, as at the
Discretion of his sd Lspp: and Councill shall be allowed of,
dureing his Lspps pleasure. Signed p ordr

A Letter was likewise writt to Capt. Brandt from his Lspp:
for Cover to the foregoeing ordr of Councill concerning the

Pise: Indians, being as foll viz.

p. 116 Capt Brandt
Yors of yesterdays Date have recd: conteyneing the Pascat-
toway Indians answer to the last ordr sent yu wch hath been
duely weighed and I now send you another ordr of Councill
relateing to them wch you are by Mr John Stone of your
County (already appointed to assist you as Interpreter) to
communicate both to the Mattawoman and Pascattoway
Indians, James Smallwood is appointed Post for yor County
for Conveyance of all publick Intelligence from thence, whom
you are upon all such occasions to make vse of.

Richard Broughton of Calvert County haveing sollicited his
Lspp for license to keepe a fferry in Pottuxen River it was
thought necessary and convenient for conveyance of publick
messengrs over Pottuxen River and the Ease & benefitt of the
Inhabitants haveing occasion aboard Shipps and over the said
River that a Post be kept at Ashcombes plantation according
