282 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1678-1679.
Lib. R. summon together one Squadron consisting of twenty men of
your Troope whom you shall think fitt to appoint, and with
them well mounted and compleately armed you are to march
to the Pascattoway ffort there to In forme your self as fully as
you cann from the Indians there touching the truth of the
said Report, and all Circumstances thereunto relateing with
the posture and Designe of the said strange Indians, and the
present State and condition of the Pascattoway Indians them-
P.109 selves soe farr forth as you can Learne or receive from them,
and for your better execution of this your precept you are to
address your self (in yr way thither) to Mr John Stone of your
sd County who is hereby willed and required to accompany
you to the said Pascattoway ffort, and to afford you his advice
aid and assistance as Interpter betweene you and the sd
Indians in such matters and thinges as yu & he shall think fitt
to propose to them, and they shall again offer to you in ordr
to yor better Information concerning the prmisses, An Accot
whereof as well you the said Capt. Randolph Brandt as also
the said John Stone undr your hands you are to rendr unto us
by Monday next the Seaventeenth instant without faile. In
ordr whereunto you are hereby Authorised and empowered to
press man & horse in any part of the said County as well for
Conveyance of the sd Accot unto us the said Seaventeenth
instant as also from time to time and at all times hereafter
when and as often as occasion shall require or you shall see
convenient for any further discovery or Intelligence wch may
happen to be made to you any waies concerning the same.
Whereof faile not and for soe Doeing this shall be your warrt
Given undr our hand and Seale at Armes the 1 2th Day of May
in the ffifth yeare of our Dominion &ca Annoq Dmi 1680:

A Letter was also writt to Mr Chandler from his Lspp: in
answer to his being as foll (viz:)

Mr Chandler
Yours of yesterdays Date this morning I recd: conteineing
the Intelligence you recd: from a Pascattoway Indian concern-
ing the Sinniquo and Susquehannoh Indians being come
down about 300 of them and Inforted neere the Pascattoway
ffort, I thanke you for your care in adviseing it, and have
given ordrs to Capta Brandt what I thought necessary to be
done therein at prsent, and shall take what further care therein
may be needfull. I am Your very Lo. ffriend
