Lib. R. R. words or will by word of mouth onely Except the same be in
the life of the Testator Comitted to writeing & after the write-
ing thereof read unto the testator & allowed by him and proved
so to be done by Three Wittnesses at the least Except in cases
of Soldiers and Seamen in actuall Service as by the said act
in print more att large appeareth Whereof I doe hereby with
the advice & Consent of the Councell Give this Publick notice
Willing and requireing all persons to take notice & to Gov-
erne themselves and their affairs accordingly Given att St
Maries under the great Seale of this Province this 4th day of
September 1678 & in the Third yeare of his Lordps Dominion
over this Province

Whereas itt hath formerly bin the usuall Custome & prac-
tice of divers the Inhabitants of this Province to sell & dis-
pose of their Provisions such as Beefe Pork Bacon & Corne
to fforreigners to be by them exported out of this Province to

p. 150 the great damage & Inconveniency many tymes both of them-
selves & the rest of the Inhabitants, the same afterwardes
proveing often tymes very scarce & deare by reason thereof,
notwithstanding the exportacon thereof hath been strictly pro
hibitted & forbiden And whereas the prsent urgent affaires
of this Province are such, that they may probably require a
considerable quantity thereof to supply its necessary occasions
I doe therefore by & with the consent & advice of his Lordpps
Councell strictly prohibitt & forbid all & singuler the Inhabi-
tants of this Province to sell or dispose of any such Provisions
as beefe Porke Bacon or Corne to any fforreigner or other
whatsoever to be exported out of this Province to any other
Port or place whatsoever as they will answer the contrary att
their utmost perill And all Mrchants & Masters of Shipps or
other Vessells & other persons whatsoever tradeing into or
resideing within this Province are hereof to take notice &
observe that they doe not Shipp or load on board any Shipp
or Vessell, whatsoever any of the aforenamed Provisions of
the growth or production of this Province to be exported out
of this Province without leave & lycence from my selfe there-
unto first had & obtained under the paine & penalty of loose-
ing & forfeiting all such Provisions as shall be so shipped &
loaden aboard together with the Shipp or Vessell in which the
same shall be so shipped & loaden as aforesaid with all her
Guns tackle furniture Ammunition & Apparrell, the one
moiety thereof to the right Honble the Lord Propry of this
Province, the other moiety to such person or persons as shall
informe & sue for the same And I doe hereby by & wth the
