absolutely necessary and desire you to take all care imagin-
able to guard your ffrontires by such waies and meanes as
you in yor Discretion shall think most requisite for the Secu-
rity of those parts from any further Assaults, And that in the
meane time you employ Jacob Young and such others as you
shall think fitt to make Inquisition into the said Murder, An
Account whereof (soe soone as they cann make any Discovery)
that they render to the Governor with all speed. You are like-
wise requested to send forward the inclosed to Capt Sibrey in
Caecill County, and the other to Coll. Lowe yor Sheriff lett be
delivered with all expedicon the other Packett please to send
by a Safe hand to Capta Taylor in Dorchester County it
requireing also greate haste to come in time for the Electing
of Burgesses for the Assembly, in all wch we doubt not of
your care in the least, and have not further to add but our
Respects to you We rest

Whereas the Governor and Councell have been informed that
the ffreemen in Charles County are obstinately inclined to
Elect Captn Josias ffendall for their Delegate in the Assembly
notwithstanding he is a pson by his Lettrs of pardon exempt
from beareing any Publick Office in this Province, and hath
been formerly refused & not admitted to sitt in the Assembly
being thereunto chosen. To Prevent the same for the ffuture,
It is resolved that the following ordr be sent to the Sheriff of
that County viz
By the Governor & Councell.
Whereas there is a writt issued fforth to the Sheriff of
Charles County for the Electing of a new Delegate in the
roome of Captn John Allen lately deed: for that County to be
and appeare at the next Genll Assembly to be held at the
Citie of St Maries on the Twentieth Day of October next
Ensueing, and whereas we are given to undrstand that the
ffreemen of the said County are apt to vote for and make
choice of Capta Josias ffendall to be their Delegate, he being
a pson exempt (by his Letters of pardon formerly granted
him) from beareing any Publick Office in this Province, and
also from haveing any vote in Elections or being himself
Elected It is Ordred
That the said Sheriff at the time of the said Election rightly
informe the ffreemen thereof to the end that they may not
