166 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1676—1678.
Lib. R. R. ized from Maryland & Virginia, & say farther, we are glad
& doe welcome his honour the Colonel with a bever & a
drest Elk skin for his trouble in comeing so farr a journey.
5thly They doe sing another song, the meaning whereof is,
that their people might not forgett what past betwixt them &
the Colonell, but might be all wayes mindfull of what is done
in this house ordained to that end by the Governor genll And
if the Sinnekes now or any tyme hereafter should appoint
any other place for to speak with you in their own Country
or elsewhere, we desire that itt may not be accepted, but that
this be & remaine the only appointed & prfixed place And all
that was propounded by you the fourth of this instant, we
desire that itt may be punctually observed upon your side, as
we shall upon ours And if you have a minde hereafter to
speak with us, we desire that itt may be here & no where
else doe present a drest Elk skinn.
6thly They say, we doe return you hearty thanks for the
releasing of the two sonns of Canoncondawe* & likewise .
*the cheife that you beheaded the Sachim of the Susquehannes
Sachim named Achnaetsachawey who was the cause of their
Maques. being taken Prisoners, & doe prsent five beavers.
