At a Councell held at New Towne Court house Saturday
morning March 23rd in the third yeare of the Dominion of
the Rtt Honble Charles &ca over this Province Annoq Dom.
1677.

Coll: Henry Coursey

Severall Great men Indians of Nanticoke in Compa wth
Coll. Henry Coursey came over to speake wth the Governor
touching the late murdr committed on David Williams and
his family in Somersett County, & brought wth them two
Nanticoke Indians Prisoners to be delivered up to the English
in Satisfaction for the same, were ordred to meete at the said
Court house this Day.

The Names of the great men are. viz
Oupetoh Bror to the Emperor The Names of the
Tequassino Prisonrs are
Chincoricos Wottocwacough
Ousawosson Onnechacoughson

The great men to Severall Interrogatories pposed to them
doe declare as foll:
That the Emperor of Nanticoke (from whom they were sent)
is ashamed that a murdr is committed upon some English,
that the English have made severall Demands to have the
murderrs Delivered up, that he has made it his chief care and
business to find out the psons that committed the same, but
notwthstanding he has made strict Inquisition into the whole
matter and has narrowly searched all the severall Townes of
Indians belonging to him & undr his Subjection, cannot find
any more then that One he has delivered up, who brought
home wth him two Matchcoates, two p shooes two pr F. Stock-
ings, one shirt, and one p Breeches soone after the murdr was
Committed, and was thereupon strictly Examined p the
Emperor how he came by them, but being able to give but a
slight acct thereof was by him suspected to be the murdrer,
and was therefore delivered up to the English that the
Emperor has also strictly Examined and Enquired of all
Indians undr his Subjection that have with them any English
Goods, where they had them and how they came by them,
but cannot find any other psons Concerned in the sd Murdr
then him whom they have already delivered up, they further
say that they were sensible that the English were very angry,
and that they had brought wth them two Indians to be Sacri-
