126 Proceedings of the Council of Maryland, 1676-1678.
Lib. R. R, from Munday next being the One and twentith day of this
instant August.
Then came the Emperor of Pascattoway, the King of Mat-
tawoman with severall of their Great men and these Articles
follow by Major Boreman were Ordered to be proposed to
them, viz.
Ist Lett the Indians be told that there is a person called
Collonel Bacon, who may perhaps come over into Maryland
to annoy them and us, That he never had, nor ever shall have
licence from us to come over to assault them, and that if the
Virginians doe come over without Our licence they may
defend themselves.
2. To the End there may be no Occasion given to the Vir-
ginians to come Over the Indians must be told, that they must
by no meanes goe Over into Virginia neither publiquely or
privately.
3: That the Virginians doe much Suspect them to have
murthered and robbed in Virginia, and that if there be any
amongst them that have either murthered or robb'd in Vir-
ginia they must deliver the murtherers to the Virginians.
4: That the Susquehanoughs have sent to us to seeke
peace, and that if we doe thinke fitt to make peace with them
Wee will certainly include them in the peace.
Since they are unwilling to have us make a peace with the
Susquehanoughs though Wee include them, Also lett them be
p. 101 asked whether they will march with the English to the new
ffort they have built, or otherwise to pursue the Susque-
hanoughs, and be obedient to the English Comanders with
whom they shall be Ordered to march.
They answered by Chotike their Speaker that they were
ready.

18th August 1676
The Deputy Govrnour and Counsell appoint thursday
sevenight next to meet at St Maries, unlesse Occasion require
to call the Counsell sooner.

Maryland ss. Att a Counsell held at Mattapeny Sewall tuesday
the 29th of August in the first yeare of his Lopps Dominion &c
Annoq 1676.
