Correspondence of Governor Sharpe. 131

But as it is of delicate Nature and Essential to his Lordp he wod
start at remove, nor yeild But from Mr Lloyd's Bad conduct,
of wh he has promised rectification" That the office was a
Noli me Tangere, But by My Lord: That prudence Caution'd
me & his Lordp abroad " when I ask'd you of a proper Person
for that Employ, you recomended your Brother Walter. My
answr I shod be glad of service to him, so droped our discourse
on that subject" And I have acquainted him "I have now
wrote to the Govr abt Patuxent Port" (wh I now Do to you)
"likely not long 'er it may become vacant, I have recomended
my sincere wishes thereunto for yr Brother Walter not doubt-
ing his Lordps Approbation, (say) The Govrs Disposition is
Good Nature, show him the Complt due to his Station, Mr
Presidt Tasker, you & conjuntive with yr Brother Walter will
gain his good will.'' Hinted Mr Ross as Naval Officer of
Patuxent, strengthned by Argumts from you as my own." I
think Policy & kind offices to Mr Presidt Tasker doth
warrant this my step. As to Mr Walter Dulany being
Recr Genl his Lordp will not approve nor of Mr Chas
Goldsborough, he is reported too Rapacious As to the office
of Keeper of the Western Roll, tis not be expected his Lordp
will Dismantel his recr Genl Employ, that of his own Being,
he regards Mr Goldsborough in a proper Light: Mr Bordley's
is said Bad in constitution the Commissary's office will suit
him. Mr Recr Lloyd has transmitted his Accots from 1757 to
1761 Eroneous & confused he Blend one year with another,
admits very dangerous Credit & acts contrary to his Lordps
Instructions prescribed to him. His disobedience to his Lordps
his Delay to late Instruction of Buying or Building the Recr
Genls office at Annapolis not done will vex my Lord at his
return; then his dislike agt Persons Nominated by his Lordp
to inspect the Recrs Genls Accol very unreasonable, Bars check,
leaving his Lordp open to fraud wh his Lordp must not submit
to. & a change will be of him most certain. Regardg the
Treasurer of the Eastern shore you hint to Mr Holliday, I
wish he may take it, my impression of him is he's an Honble
Person & of capacity Serviceable. By a former hint you q' red
upon the resignation of Mr Comissry Bordley as Attory Genl
yr appointmt tended to Holliday & young Key. I wish the
former, Mr Key appears to me not assiduity enough & the
other more grounded in Law. Further relative to the Recr
Genls Office, on Mr Lloyds resign the Question who? His
Lordp has had a scheme of sending a Person from hence in
such Employ aledging, strongly as it is his own private affairs
Extra Officio of the Provincial State. Be it I replyed, consider,
tis an office of Large Proffit & by modus some one of the Pro-
vince has always Enjoyed it, if sound Security was provincialy
