130 Correspondence of Governor Sharpe.

Southermost part of Philadelphia, then to proceed by the
Sector 30 or 35 miles West the same Latde as the Southermost
point of that city Bears, from thence 15teen Miles due South &
to observe the latde of the south end of the sd Line pr Sector,
& so to proceed to draw the Parallel of Latde, the North
Boundary of Maryland & S. of Pensilvania. Their process
seemes regular as pr Hints given them from hence, & their
proceed8 confirmed by the Comissrs on Both sides meet at
Philadelphia the 30th of Novr last, & I do not doubt all is
regular. Am sorry yr not being present prevented by a vio-
lent Cold, these intelligences I receive from Mr Ridout at
Philadelphia City.
You have his Lordps Approbation from me & I am glad
accordingly of yr having placed Mr Key of the Council & Mr
Scott as Clerk of the Council, think yr reasons on the
Behalf of Mr Ross as Naval Officer at Patuxent Just & agg
Ill-nature to hurt his possession. You surprise me abt Mr
Plater, I am not engaged to him for his Success to Patuxent
Port. Men here & in the Province say as they List, I assume
no ipse Dixit, you hold the Rudder & steer the ship. Men
apply, they write, I refer & take the Liberty to recomend them
for yr kindness if friends to the Lord Proprietor & you & the
administration. Ipse Dixit is his Lordp I am in scituation
to double Business Bound in capacity as Provincial Secy
Bound to his Lordp & to Both yr controul. I think Mr Plater's
pretentions De Corpore Politico can't have suite at present as
others have Prior Pretentions. Touching Mr Daniel Dulany
say to you " I approved of his Brother Mr Walter Dulany to
be Agent (Recr Genl) in the stead of Mr Lloyd the Present
Recr Genl" follows the substance of our discourse on that sub-
ject, & relative I have wrote Now in answr saying, " In answr
to yrs our discourse abt Mr Walter Dulany. My intentions
were sincere & thereof I acquitted myself by Letr to his
Excelly under yr care on his Behalf 'tis not the first time, & I
can't pass giving assurance that the Goverr has respectfully
wrote of him & desirous of service to him as a friend: Yr
Brother's apprehensions to the contrary is a mistake." My
writing on that Subject has been Genl I've no fix'd mark I
assume no such practice, this my conduct Mr Presdt Tasker
knows when he was at the Helm of the Govermt concerng the
Recr Genls Employ, part of our discourse, " I hinted his
Lordps displeasure agt Mr Lloyd, the Non-remittance of his
annual accts & of wh I had admonish' d him. Since he has
almost acquitted himself thereof & promises regular trans-
missions has no relish to Quit." "That the Employ is a
peculiar to his Lordp that of his own welfare, & in wch I
desired to be rightly taken of No Exception agt his Brother,
