Permit was granted to John Smith Master of the Schooner
Polly to go to No Carolina, he having given Bond agreeable
to Resolve of Convention.
Warrants issued to Edward Geale, Michael Morgan and
Clement Smith appointed recruiting Serjeants for the Artil-
lery of this State, and ordered that Western shore Treasurer
pay to each of said recruiting Serjeants fifty Pounds.
Ordered That said Treasurer pay to Colo Jas Murray, for use
of Thomas Smith John Fletcher & John Langfott sixty Pounds,
fifteen shilling for Amt Accts
Ordered That Western shore Treasurer pay to Captain
Richard Smith sixty seven Pounds, twelve shillings & eleven
Pence for Amt Acct
Ordered That said Treasurer pay to Wm Wilkins three hun-
dred Pounds, on Acct of Fortifications.
Adjourned 'till next Day 10 o' Clock.

[Clarke to Jenifer.]

Baltimore October 31st 1776.
Sir. I took the liberty to write a few days ago, to acquaint
the Honble Council of Safety, that I had a vessell of 700
barrells burthen at their service, if they wanted to purchase. I
find that she will carry about 800 barrels, is in want of some
repairs. Am applied to by some people, in this Town for her,
with whom I cannot treat till I know your determination.
Please favour me with an answer p the bearer, Mr Melcher
Keener,
and will much oblige your most Obedt Humbl
Servt James Clarke.
To Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer Esq.
Annapolis

P. S. I believe this vessell of mine is a very fast sailor.
Her lowest price as she lies is £450. Should you take her
I wou'd be very thankfull to be employ 'd to command her.

Swan Creek 31st October 1776.
Sir. Since I wrote last, Capt. Robert Harris being on his
March and at Susquehanna, but in want of Blankets, tents
and money, applyed to me, and out of the Stores in my hands
I supplyed him with forty Blankets and ninty one yards of
Linen, and for his Ferriages and expences, paid his order to
Capt. John Rodgers for four pounds four shillings and nine
pence, this I take care to mention to you lest a call for these
