[Dames to Council.]
Chester Town Kent County Aug 28th 1776.
Gentn I take this opportunity by Mr Smith to inform you
my company is now on their march, have received knappsacks,
haversacks, Cartouch boxes, Bayonett belts and gun slings,
but are at a loss for Camp Kettles, Tent Cloth and Blanketts,
not having more than about forty blanketts, the men complain
much for want of them.
If we cou'd be furnish'd with cloth we cou'd soon have tents
made here. Captains Smith and Perkins's company are
exceedingly well fitted with Tents.
It seems from the number of troops that have marched to
the Northward, it will be almost impossible to be supplied
there. Gentlemen if your board should think proper to fur-
nish me with tent cloth, camp kettles and some blanketts, shall
think myself infinitely obliged. The things might be put on
board a rock hall boat, where we may get them very handily.
I have had no cash for the support of my Company, which I
am much in want of. Mr Winters has not returned from Ann-
apolis, therefore have not got our arms yet from him.
I am Gent your
Most obedt & Hble Servt
John Dames.
