[Council to W. Richardson.]

To Colonel William Richardson
Sir.
Captain Dames has an order on Mr Winters for Forty
Musquets which will compleately furnish his Company and
enable him to supply Captain Dean's with some. Captain
Burkes Company is now here, but will leave us for the Head
of Elk this afternoon. We have appointed Mr Potter Surgeon
Assistant and we enclose you his Warrant, Medicines must
be furnished at Philadelphia by the Congress. We approve
of your having the Arms repaired in Philadelphia and desire
you will give the necessary orders for that purpose to your
Companies as they March. Tents we are informed may be
had at New York, they cannot be got here, perhaps they may
be got at Philadelphia if they can you will get there what will
be necessary for your Battalion. This Province must defray
the expence in the first instance, but the Charge will be
Continental.

[H. Hollingsworth to Council.]

Gentlemen: Head of Elk 24th August 1776.
Capt Alexander of the Flying Camp having had his com-
pany compleat for a considerable time past and hearing
nothing from his field officers, hath requested me to inform
your Honnours, that he only waits your orders to march, the
Guns, Bayonetts and Cartouch Boxes are ready, as also the
Blankets, cloth might been had for Tents but as no orders
were recd on that head there is none prepared here. There is

about so canteens prepared, and I believe the rest may be had

hear if thought necessary, if any thing further is wanted
pleas to command
Gentlemen, Your most obedt Humb. Servt
H. Hollingsworth.

P. S. My Bayonett forgers have been two of them sick for
some time, but yesterday began to work again.

[Dean to Council.]

Head of Elk 24th August 1776.
Gentlemen. Just arrived at the Head of Elk and expected
to have been furnished with bayonets and knapsacks and can-
tines, but find there is nothing provided for me here, nor a
field officer to direct me. I purpose continuing my march to
Philadelphia, where I hope your Honours will have me pro-
