go up that river for them, and the ship Defence to go down
below the mouth of Potowmack to protect her — come down
therefore as soon as you can, & call on us for a letter to the

No. 123.

[Council to Messrs. Hughes.]

Danl & Saml Hughes
Sir, We are now much in want of the cannon you con-
tracted to supply us with; we must therefore request you will
with all expedition send down all you have ready and that you
will not delay, as quickly as you possibly can complying with
the whole of your contract.
[You may send one half to Balto Town and the others to
Annapolis, if the waggoners can be procured so to bring
them.]

No. 124.

[Council to Tillard.]

Captn Tillard
Sir.
We are informed by Mr Chew that the Privates of your
Company are very uneasy on Account of their not being taken
into Barracks and provided with subsistence. By the resolves
of Congress the militia of the Flying Camp are not to be
allowed any pay or rations until they are properly armed and
accoutred, and march to the Northward, and as our Conven-
tion did not give any particular directions to the Council of
Safety about them, we have not thought it proper to order
them to be taken into barracks or subsisted, however as yr
Company may be very serviceable here provided they will
assist in working on the fortifications in & about this city,
which we presume they will not object to, we will take them
into barracks and give them all the assistance we can in
geting arms.

No. 125.

[Council to Scott.]

George Scott Esqr
Sir.
Colo Griffith wants some Linen for his Battalion, if you &
he can agree about Price, we are willing he should have it.
