Monday 1st July 1776

Council met. Present as on yesterday, except Mr Hall Mr
Plater, Mr Smyth & Mr Hands.
Ordered That the Treasurer of the Western Shore pay to
Matthew Tilghman esqr four Pounds for 16w Gun powder sup-
ply'd the militia on the Otter Alarm.
Ordered That the Treasurer of the Western Shore pay to
Captn James Nicholson five hundred and fourteen Pounds, for
one month's pay of the ship's Crew on board the Defence.
Ordered That said Treasurer pay to Captain James Kent
forty four Pounds, seven shillings and two pence, Bal" of the
minute Compy on duty in Virginia.
Ordered That the Treasurer of the Western Shore pay to

With a grateful sense of your good opinion of me I beg
leave to resign the Commission of first Major, in Soldiers
Delight Battalion; since (having attended last Saturday) the
Battalion declare, that they will be commanded only by Officers
recommended by themselves.
