C. S. C.

day & find I have seventy five pounds, which I hope will be
called good, I fear my success is far short of many, but us all
I could well send to this time, my desire to serve is as much
as any concerned. I hope failure in quantity wont be attrib-
uted to any neglect in me, I shall advise from time to time of
my success:
I am Sirs Your very Hble Servt Amos Garrett.

I have sent a small sample which your Honours will have to
compare with the Productions of other countys: I have now
ready and shall finish this week 50 Bayonets, & shall continue
to make :

Original,

[Harrison (?) to Council.]
St Eustatia June I 5th 1776.

Gentn My last was of the 18 ulto by Capt Calendar in-
closing duplicates of the papers sent by the John Capt Speake,
who sailed the 14th with 6000lbs powder & 22 bbls Sulphur on
your accot which I hope is now safely landed with you: By that
opportunity I informed you of my having 6000 more left, 4000
of which I took down with me to this place, expecting a readier
conveyance for it than from my own. On my arrival I found

engaged on Freight for Virginia. In her I determined to ship
also, but finding that I should be obliged to advance money tor
fitting her out, and every other extra expence, besides insuring
her, I concluded it would be more to your interest to purchase
her & receive 10 pr Ct on the goods I could procure on
Freight, especially as I could make the payment so convenient
to you. accordingly I have agreed with Capt. Martin for her
at £900 Maryland cury, have taken his Bill of sale & given
him my two drafts of this date for £450 each on you at ten
days sight, which you'll please to honour & pass to my debit,
and at the same time credit me with the vessel. This pur
chase I flatter myself cannot but be agreeable to you. She is
a fine new vessell, sails fast, and will be well fitted for another
voyage, a cruize, or for sale as you may judge proper. The
freight you'll have to receive will amount to half the cost, &
should you be so unfortunate as to lose her the damage will
be no more than if I had chartered and insured her: — I have
shipped for you by this vessell 14000lbs powder & 23 Bales
Hollands Duck, (which is as much & rather more than the
remainder of my money would purchase) amounting to £2674..
7.. 4 your curry which you'll please to note in my account,
Invoice & Bill lading therefor being inclosed: With this a
