declaring for independence is without foundation; we take it
to be news from some incendiary; — Mr Purviance got off with
a severe reprimand, as you will see by the proceedings of the
Convention, a copy of which we shall hereafter inclose to you
when they are printed. We all join in compliments and best
wishes.

[Johnson to Council.]

Fredk Town June 7th 1776.
Genl The inclosed is a list of three Companies which
remain uncommissioned in my Battalion, Capt Mackalls &
Capt Poe's have been made up since the Battl was formed, and
by the Committee, appropriated to the 34th Battl1, Capt Frazer
was 1 Lieut to Capt. Lucketts Company, as Capt Luckett was
removed by his appointmt they have made his Lieut. Capt and
so have raised the whole of the officers, and made the 1 Sergt
Ensign— you will be pleased to have the Commissions made
out & sent as soon as Convenient :

[Dugan to Council.]

Baltimore 7th June 1776.
Gentn On my arrival here I told, Mr Woolsey of our going
to unload the 92, & that the Honurable Councill of Safety
wanted to see him on the same occasion respecting the Brig
he loaded, when he said he woud be damned if he woud go
near you without writen orders, and that you shoud not take
a barrell out of the Brig, before he knew on what terms &c &c,
this is a matter that dont concern me, nor shoud I mention it,
had not, you desired me to advise Mr Lux & Woolsey your
orders respecting what was done with our Schooner, and as
from my verball ordrs you cant see Mr Woolsey, thought best
to advise you his answer to me that you may write him; as
the Cargo lays, still in her, and as to Mr Lux I heare he went
down to you last evening. I am busy geting the Warehouse
lofts ready for the whole of your produce in these three ves-
sels; where you may depend on all possible care being taken
of opening doors & windows every day, and picking out what
of the flour seems most warm for the immediate bakeing, the
