were opened. That Mr Gassaway had been told of this Mis-
behaviour sometime afterwards, and been advised to retract
and make proper Concessions; That he then repeated his
Opinion and declared that he was right."
Robert Gassaway being brought before the Council of
Safety and having satisfied them that he had signed the Asso-
ciation and had duly enrolled himself in a Company of Militia
in Frederick County; and at the same Time having acknowl-
edged that he had greatly misconducted himself, and was
sorry that it should be thought he would do anything to dis-
unite the People of this Province, and having promised that he
would be very careful of his words and Actions for the future.
It is therefore Resolved that he acknowledge that he was
guilty of an Offence that might have been of dangerous Con-
sequence, and ask Pardon at the Head of Capt Smith's Com-
pany. And upon Payment of all Expences attending the
Guard and otherwise complying with the above Resolve that
he be discharged from Custody.

Copy of Letter No 106 was sent to the Committee of Obser-

vation for the Middle District of Frederick County.
Adjourned till next Day 10 O'Clock.

I confess that that I am sory to think that I should have said
enni thing that should have given enny purson reson to think
that it was my deiser to disunite the peopel and, And acknowl-
edge my error in so doing, and do promis for tim to cum to
behave myself carfully in the cause of amarear.

We inclose you the Judgement of our Board against Robert
Gassaway whom we were induced to treat with Moderation as
he discovered a good deal of Sorrow and Contrition for his
Offence which appeared to us to be in a great Measure the
Effect of Passion.
