of a back Cargo, so eligible is this plan to me that I have
laid before you that if you give me permission I will risque it
all on my own accot and will give all the arms ammunition &c
I may get in, the first offer of all to the Council of Safety,
should you be afraid that by granting me this premition you
would be troubled with many other applications it need not be

known to any but that she goes on accot of the province.
Sir. You will please excuse me troubling you as your the
only gentleman of the Council I have the honour to be
acquainted with, pray favour me with an answer by the first
opply and you will much oblige Sir your
Very Humble Servt
William Neill.
To the Honble Charles Carroll a member of the Council of
Safety.

[Ramsey to Jenifer.]

Sir.
I received your letter by the Post, and for answer inform
you, that I can purchase some tow Cloth upwards of yard wide
which I think for last, will be preferable to Oznaburgh, but
good flax, or hemp linnen of that width, known here by the
name of eight Hundred linnen; I cannot purchase under 3/ or
2/10 I am of opinion tho' that in the end it will be much
cheaper than Oznabs Oznabs I apprehend cannot with any
degree of Conveniency be made into Hunting Shirts, as from
its narrowness two breadths will not be sufficient for any Man,
and by putting in a third it will not only appear clumsey, but
will in fact be as dear, as linnen upwards of yard wide would
be at 3/ supposing the Oznabs to be had at 2/ and with
respect to the wearing of the two there would be no Compari-
son. I intend this Day to wait upon the person who has the
Woolen Cloth to sell, and if I can consistent with your direc-
tions, will bargain for it.
By the bearer Mr Ewing you will have an opportunity of
sending me any further Directions you may think proper.
I am, Sir, Most Humbl Sert
Charles Town Feby 12th 1776 Nat. Ramsey
