part of which wee doe dayly here the beating of drums and
vollyes of shott and are certainly informed That they are all
in Armes and designe over here, soe that though (thanks be
to God our distracted people begin to Recover their sences
Yet they continueing out of theirs wee have reason to feare

endeavour by all meanes possibe to prevent But must desire

your Speedy Advice whether it may not be proper for me to
have a company or two of my Regiment and Capt Brand his
troops in a readinesse that wee may be upon our guard and
be capable of securing these frontier parts from plunder if
faire words (which shall be first used will not prevail with them
to returne home peacebly they having first been throughly
informed of the unparrelled falsity of the said Rumours I have
noe more at present to offer but onely the tender of my humble
respects to your honr and to assure you that when occasion
serves noe body shall be more forward to demonstrate their
fidelity to my Lord and the Governmt then

Pray advise me whether my stay in this County at this
juncture may not be necessary and consequently my absense
from the provinciall to be dispenst with all I must beg you
to send me per the bearer 3 or 4ll of pistoll powder I haveing
none but one barrell of common powder unfit for use.

My Lre being deteyned by mistake just now I am forced to
open it to let you know that Majr Beale is arrived with a party
of horse from Rangeing downe the Coast of this side of Poto-
mack and does declare he saw noe foote of any Seneca Indian
And that he appeased severall litle uproars occasioned by
Idle reports of a mans beating his boy for lettin his cow be
swampt etc And that he sent Mr Brightwell to Virga who
seeing noe Christian soul in those parts they being fled to
their forts He satisfied the Capt of the ship that lyes there of
the falsity of all reports and prevailed with Mr Hinson and his
wife to returne out of Virga
The Majr designes now home and soe up the Easterne
branch To the honble the Deputy Leiuts
with care and speed for my Lord and countrys service
